Support MFS

I give to MFS because... Peter Dempsey ’99 – Newton, MA
Peter went to Brandeis University after MFS, earning a B.S. in computer science, then obtaining an M.S. from Boston University in computer systems engineering. Today he is working for Microsoft. At MFS Peter was Cum Laude, helped to start roller hockey, was a soccer captain and goalie and was a mainstay of the stage crew. He returned this past Alumni Weekend for his class’ Tenth Reunion. “MFS built the base for my academic and professional career. It taught me the value of working hard and always challenging myself. In addition to the academics, I learned many practical real world skills: time management, multi-tasking, the importance of deadlines. In many ways, these are the most important skills I have. I learned a great deal about how the world works at MFS. Considerable suffering and lack of justice exist in the world, but this is no excuse to become apathetic. Through various activities I learned how I could change the world for the better, sometimes successfully and sometimes not, but each experience taught me a great deal. The spirit of charity and other Quaker tenets differentiate MFS from many academically comparable schools. The Quaker practice of inner reflection is still with me to this day. I think it is tremendously important to expect the best of ourselves: to push for new challenges and successes; and to accept failures and setbacks as a natural part of life. There are very few schools that can teach so much academically and spiritually, and at the same time be as much fun to attend as MFS. My time at MFS was the beginning of my adult life and the foundation of who I am today. I am eternally grateful that I had the privilege and opportunity to attend such an excellent institution. “I know without a doubt that MFS provides
an educational experience that is extremely valuable. The students
are people that will make our world a better place; people that I want
to share my life with. The education that I received from MFS is not
something I can put a price on. Contributing donations to the school
is a small way to pay that back and to support a community that will
enrich the lives of everyone it touches.” – Peter
