TWO MOORESTOWN FRIENDS SCHOOL STUDENTS

RECEIVE NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS

Two Moorestown Friends School (MFS) seniors were recently awarded scholarships through the National Merit Scholarship® Program.  Moorestown resident Anthony Cordisco will receive a scholarship from Villanova University, and Mount Laurel resident Laurien Gilbert will receive a scholarship from the Dow Chemical Company.

The 2005 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) served as an initial screen for more than one million entrants to the National Merit Scholarship Program.  Cordisco and Gilbert had previously been named National Merit Semifinalists.  Semifinalists are the highest scorers in each of the 50 states and represent less than one percent of each state’s high school seniors.  Semifinalists are eligible to apply for Finalist status and scholarships.

Cordisco will be attending Villanova University in the fall.  He plans to become a meteorologist specializing in studying and forecasting hurricanes.  At MFS, he contributes to the school newspaper and is a member of the cross-country team.  He also plays the guitar and plays chess.

Gilbert will be attending Brown University in the fall.  At MFS, she is currently taking three college-level science classes.  She is also an editor of the school literary magazine, and served as captain of the girl’s varsity fencing foil team.  She plays the clarinet, and is a leader of the FOCUS club (Fellowship of Christians in Universities and Schools).
