Weather Closings
Snow Closing Policy
Snow closing information will be announced as soon as the decision is made, which may be the night before or early on the morning of a snow day. When school is closed, all practices, games and rentals for that day are canceled.
If conditions warrant, the school may open late and that information will be announced as well.
Parent and Student Notification
In the event that school is closed or opening with a one- or two-hour delay, parents will receive a phone call with that information from the Alertnow Rapid Notification system. The call to parents will be made as soon as the decision is made. As this call will be made in the late evening or early morning, the phone call from Alertnow will only be made to the home phone number (or cell phone if that is listed as the home phone number). Additionally, information regarding a school closing or a delayed opening will be available in the following ways:
-
Call the MFS switchboard at (856) 235-2900 and press “1.”
-
Access the MFS website (www.mfriends.org).
-
Listen to KYW-AM 1060 Radio and listen for the MFS snow number: 680.
-
Check the morning broadcasts on TV channels CBS-3, ABC-6 and NBC-10 or visit the stations’ respective websites.
Burlington County Busing
The Burlington County Educational Services Unit notes that the bus that transports your child to and from school will observe the same guidelines used by your resident school district (K-12 districts) or, in the case of districts which are part of a regional high school district (Lenape or Rancocas Valley), the regional high school district in determining whether to cancel transportation. Families with students who ride buses from sending districts will need to check to see if their sending district is open or closed and to determine if it will be providing transportation. If that district is closed, your child’s bus will not be operating that day. If there is a delayed opening, then your child’s bus will also be delayed. Please listen to the radio for this information; major Philadelphia stations announce this on a regular basis in the morning. Please make note of the following numbers in case of inclement weather:
Lenape Regional High School District – 654
Maple Shade School District – 660
Rancocas Valley Regional High School District – 664
When it snows during the day:
If it snows heavily during the day, school will officially remain open ONLY until 3:10 p.m.
If you normally pick up your child, please come promptly so our staff members may leave.
Extended Day remains open as long as children are present. However, if there is extensive snow, Extended Day will close as soon as the last child is picked up. Parents need to pick up their children promptly. This also applies to Middle School and Upper School students staying in the Dining Hall/Commons after school.
Athletes will be notified by their coaches if games and practices are canceled. Parents wishing to check on the status of games and practices may call (856) 235-2900, ext. 365.
Transportation during snow:
If your Middle or Upper School child rides the bus and the sending district dispatches buses to pick up MFS students, they will be excused early to board them. Lower School students will be allowed to board these early buses only if school personnel have contacted a parent or if someone on the snow emergency list has granted permission to let them board.
Early Pickup
If parents wish to pick up their children before 3:10 p.m., they must call to notify the appropriate division office. Parents of student drivers also must call to give permission for students to leave before 3:10 p.m.
