Academics - Lower School Life April 22, 2009 Prekindergarten: Happy Earth Day! View all photos from Prekindergarten's Family Service Day
Prekindergarten students and family members enjoyed a special Family Service Day on Earth Day (April 22). Students and their family members gathered outside the White Building to begin the activities. They listened to Prekindergarten Teacher Lisa Martin read Earth Day by Robin Nelson and ended the opening session by singing a refrain of the song “This Land Is Your Land.” The two classes then broke into four groups to work on different activities: Prekindergarten Teacher Morgan Gandal led a canvas bag printing activity which she introduced by reading the book My Bag and Me! by Karen Farmer. Assistant Kathleen Strykowsky led students and family members in planting flowers and plants in a bed in front of the White Building. Lisa Martin led a Recycle Sort into decorated containers that she introduced by reading the book Earth Day by Leslie Garrett. Assistant Diane Vavricka showed students how to plant tomato seedlings and each student was able to take their planting home in a peat pot. Students learned the value of environmental responsibility and enjoyed planting and getting dirty with their parents and family members!
