| And they're off...runners in the 2011 Red Sock Run Fun Run take off on Saturday. Following the run, students, parents and alumni participated in a variety of Color Day activities after which the Red team was awarded the Spirit Stick thanks to a 2600-2500 victory in the all-year Red vs. Blue competition. of the Equal Rights Amendment, and one of the school’s
most notable alumnae (Class of 1901). MFS invites all members
of the community to the home of Alice Paul, on Hooton Road in
Mount Laurel. Now run by the Alice Paul Institute, Paulsdale
was owned by former faculty member and alumni parent, Miriam
Feyerherm. This is a great opportunity to spend time
exploring a historic local landmark with a direct connection
to MFS. |

Parent Council To Host Screening of Race to Nowhere Tuesday Evening
Parent Council is pleased to present Race
to Nowhere, the critically acclaimed documentary about
the struggles students and teachers face and the impact it
has on education, on Tuesday, May 17 at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium.
This film has been screened in 18,000 locations and has been
seen by more than 500,000 viewers in 48 states and 20 countries.

This movie has received awards at several film festivals and has been given positive
reviews from publications around the world. If you would like to attend
the screening of Race to Nowhere, pre-registration is required per

Students Garner Honors
at Cum Laude/Honors Banquet

| Cum Laude Society Inductees |
Fourteen Upper School students were inducted
into the Cum Laude Society, a national honor society for academically
challenging independent schools, at a ceremony during the Cum
Laude/Honors Banquet on Thursday evening.
The fourteen inductees include seniors Julia
Bintliff, Joshua Gregory,
Taylor Horn, Hee Jin Kim, Devin
Massaro, Alexander Schoifet and Elizabeth
Tatum. Juniors selected for the honor were: Carolyn
Chelius, Katherine Churchill, Valere
Demuynck, Karan Hiremath, Bethany
Holtz, Madison Taormina and Emily
Whitley.
Named to the Cum Laude Society last year were
current seniors Peter Barna, Alleanna
Harris, Isaias Muñoz, Samantha Saludades, Darshak
Thosani, Brian White and David
White.
Students are selected for membership based
on their cumulative record of academic excellence in all subject
areas. No more than 20 percent of a school’s senior class
may be selected, with no more than 10 percent chosen during their
junior year. Moorestown Friends School received its Cum
Laude charter in 1962. |

Named to the National Spanish Honor Society
were senior Alleanna Harris and juniors Sophia
Aguilar, Jacquelyn Garcia, Mary
Kathryn McGrath and Emily Whitley.
Named to the National French Honor Society
were juniors Carolyn Chelius, Katherine
Churchill, Valere Demuynck, Esther Montgomery, Katherine
Sowa and Madison Taormina.
The French and Spanish Honor Societies recognize
superior achievement in world languages at the intermediate or
advanced level and superior academic achievement in a student’s
total program. The organizations are designed to promote interest
in the study of French and Spanish language and culture. The
Société Honoraire de Français and the Sociedad
Honoraria Hispánica are national organizations with chapters
throughout the United States. Moorestown Friends School has had
chapters since 1989. |

Moorestown Friends School (MFS) seniors were recognized for completion
of the MFS Honors Program: George Bader, Nicholas
Cook, Chandler Hart-McGonigle, Taylor
Horn, Alexandra Hovatter, Devin
Massaro, Temi Obaisi, Claire
Ponticello, Samantha Saludades, Alexander
Schoifet, Galen Spencer-Linzie, Elizabeth
Tatum, Darshak Thosani, Brian
White and David White.
The program is a two-year sequence of curricular
requirements, including completing various AP courses and undertaking
a capstone project. Students are selected based upon their academic
record, intellectual curiosity, motivation, self-discipline,
organization, an ability to work independently and strong teacher
recommendations. |
Sixth Grader Performs with NJ Elementary Honor Choir Conducted By MFS Choral Director
Sixth grader Julia
Giordano was selected to sing in the 2011 New Jersey
Elementary Honor Choir. The choir featured the top 127 singers
from the state, from over 300 applicants. Julia learned the
music with MFS MS/US Choral Director Melissa Malvar-Keylock prior
to the event, and had the six songs learned and memorized prior
to the first rehearsal on Saturday, April 30. The following
Saturday, May 7, in Flemington, all-day rehearsals prepared
the students for a concert with approximately 800 people in
attendance, including the Junior High Honor Choir. Malvar-Keylock
was selected to conduct this year’s Elementary Honor
Choir. |
Playoff Update
Baseball Team To Host FSL Semifinal
on Wednesday
Three varsity teams have qualified for the
Friends League playoffs:
Baseball -
The Foxes (7-4 overall, 7-3 league) have clinched the #2 seed
in the Friends Schools League playoffs and will host the #3
seed (still to be detemined) on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Come out
to cheer the Foxes on! NJSIAA playoff brackets will be posted
this week.
Girls Lacrosse - With a league
mark of 4-3 (6-6 overall), the Foxes earned the #4 seed in the
FSL playoff and will travel to top-seed Friends Central on Tuesday
for a 4 p.m. match. They have also earned the #14 seed in the
NJSIAA South Group I playoffs and will travel to #3 seed Delaware
Valley this afternoon.
Boys Lacrosse - At
10-2 (3-2 FSL), the Foxes have clinched the #3 seed
and will travel to #2 seed Academy of the New Church on Tuesday
for a 4 p.m. match. NJSIAA playoff
brackets will be posted this week.
In other sports action:
Boys Tennis - The boys tennis team (5-9 overall)
hosts Ranney School tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. in a NJSIAA Non-Public
B South quarterfinal match.
Golf - Today Bala Country Club is hosting the
Friends Schools League championships. |
