Students Present Work at Robotics Networking Event

On May 11, a group of students, led by Upper School Science Teacher Drew Newman, traveled to the 2010 LRIG (Laboratory of Robotics Interest Group) Mid-Atlantic Conference in New Brunswick. This annual event provides an opportunity for students to practice their public speaking skills and gain exposure to applied science at the highest levels.

Ten students from Mr. Newman's Biology II Honors and AP Biology classes presented their work in a judged poster competition: George Bader, Saheb Bhasin (above left), Nick Cook, Dominique Gnatowski, Jill Gonyea, Harrison Krohn (above middle), Devin Massaro (above right), Anehita Oribabor, Matt Tamburri and Darshak Thosani. Students from several other NJ/NY area high schools and colleges presented posters on a variety of topics, including neuroscience, engineering, genetics, and microbiology. Additionally, the MFS Robotics teams were represented by Karan Hiremath, Gabe Hege and Taylor Cheng, who networked with robotics and information system professionals.

LRIG's mission is to provide a forum for the laboratory automation (i.e., robotics) community. By getting researchers and engineers together, they hope to speed the pace of discovery, invention and application of automated systems in research and industry, particularly pharmaceutical, biotechnology, chemical, agricultural, cosmetic, food, and specialty manufacturing.

Two years later in Moorestown, the Chester Preparative Meeting of Friends bought a piece of land in order to build a schoolhouse on the south side of what was then known as Salem Road or today’s Main Street, just a stone’s throw from the Moorestown Meeting House..."

On April 25, the Friends Enrichment Program (FEP) Music and Dance Medley raised $355 for the FEP Scholarship fund and was a huge success. A total of 21 young musicians and dancers performed to the delight of the audience. Participating in the Music and Dance Medley were young people from the Moorestown Friends community: Jasmine and Ashleigh Cartwright (ballet), Chiara, Abrial, and Breana Cocelli (piano), Dennis Walter '08 (guitar) and Eric Teitlebaum '08 (violin); and members of the Moorestown Friends Chamber Ensemble under the direction of Brian Howard. During the event, freshman Ashleigh Cartwright was honored for her outstanding contribution as the creator, choreographer, and director of the FEP ballet class, which was first convened in the fall of 2009 and performed brilliantly, surpassing everyone’s expectations.
