Director of College Guidance Hired

Meredith Hanamirian has been hired as the new Director of College Guidance beginning July 1, 2010. She replaces Katy Rinehart, who is retiring at the end of the school year after a distinguished 16-year career at MFS. Meredith served as Director of College Counseling and then as Director of Admissions and Financial Aid at the Wardlaw-Hartridge School in Edison, NJ. She is currently an independent college counselor and works as a grant writer. She has taught Spanish at Wardlaw-Hartridge, The McLean School in Potomac, MD and Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA. A graduate of Sidwell Friends in Washington DC, Meredith has a B.A. from Bates College and a M.A. in Private School Leadership from Columbia University Teacher’s College. The search committee reviewed many resumes and interviewed a number of highly qualified candidates, including several currently in higher education. Meredith’s professional qualifications and personal characteristics convinced us that she was the one most suited to this high-profile and crucial position.

Meredith and her husband John have two children in the Lower School at MFS.

--Barbara Caldwell, Associate Head of School and Academic Dean

This choir consists of approximately 140 students from across South Jersey who will come together at Lindenwold High School on March 6 to practice the music together, and perform a concert at the end of the day for parents and the community. Keepsake MFS 225th Anniversary Book in Production

In 2010-11 Moorestown Friends School will celebrate its 225th Anniversary with a number of special events. Throughout the year, the rich history of one of the oldest three-division Friends schools in the United States will be told.

It is that story that is being captured in a handsome history book, scheduled for publication in September 2010. This 128-page coffee table book details the school’s early beginnings, growth, leadership changes, and rise to becoming one of the premier independent schools in the country.

Written by author Margaret O. Kirk, a Friends school parent from Philadelphia, the story of MFS past and present (title to be determined) is helped along by the many alums, faculty, and retirees who shared their love of MFS in this book.

Pre-ordering will begin this spring. More information will follow in the coming weeks.

Openings on Alice Paul Institute (API) Girls Advisory Council

The Alice Paul Institute is seeking girls between the ages of 13 and 17 who want to get involved in their Girls Advisory Council (GAC). Alice Paul graduated from MFS in 1901. Members of GAC help to plan API events, attend area conferences for girls, advise on new programs and issues facing girls, and receive updates about other opportunities in their area. GAC members have planned a one-day program for younger girls, performed a play in Washington, D.C., and been published in New Moon Magazine. An information session for new members to learn more about Alice Paul, tour Paulsdale, and meet current GAC members will be held at Paulsdale (128 Hooton Rd. in Mount Laurel) on Thursday, February 25, 2010. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Dana Dabek-Milstein, API's Director of Leadership Programs, at 856-231-1885 or ddmilstein@alicepaul.org.
