Record 169 Meals Collected During Thanksgiving Food Drive

There was very generous support of the Thanksgiving Dinner Collection for New Visions Center in Camden.  With your participation your children collected a record 169 complete dinners plus $1,346.88 for turkeys!  Upper School students loaded the dinners, packed in reusable grocery bags, into the vehicles of Lower School parents Meredith Hanamirian and Tim and Nicole Fox, who graciously made the delivery on November 19.  While New Visions has seen its funds dwindle and their client lists grow even larger this year, the staff there is rich in spirit and hope as they help their community. The new director was overwhelmed by the amount of food that is so sorely needed.

Students Attend Princeton Model U.N. Conference

Twenty-two MFS Upper School Students participated in the 2009 Princeton University Model United Nations Conference on November 20-21.

Sophomore Doug Adair was named "Best Delegate" on the Palestinian Council. MFS Model U.N. President senior Robert Rinaldi was awoken at 1:30 a.m. Saturday morning (11/21) and rushed to a United Nations Security Council crisis meeting as reports filtered out of the Congo that the president was kidnapped. Robert was in a closed door session with other government officials until 4 a.m., strategizing what the proper response should be.

All in all, MFS students represented four nations: Malaysia, Montenegro, Palestine, and Uzbekistan.

MFS Robotics Teams Fare Well in New York

Two MFS Robotics teams won awards this past weekend at the Northern New York Robotics Institute (NNYRI) competition at Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY.

The MFS Hawks (Michael Brady, Meagan Connelly, Karan Hiremath, Josh Pinho, Andrew Rosenbach, Danny Salowe, Sam Stratter and Alex Timber) won the Think Award. This award is given to the team that best reflects the “journey” the team took as they experienced the engineering design process during the build season.  The Engineering Notebook is the key reference for judges to help identify the most deserving team.

The MFS Foxes (Ryan Brancato, Matthew Eckart, Gabe Hege, Trevor Heins, Dan Obaisi and Josh Sackstein) won the Judges Award.

Winter Weather Cancellations/Delays

In the event that school is closed or opening with a one- or two-hour delay, parents will receive a phone call with that information from the Alertnow Rapid Notification system. The call to parents will be

Fox Tracks

MFS now has a significant presence on the Philadelphia Boys Choir and Chorale. As of this school year, five MFS boys are currently members of the choir. They all spent two years in the choir's cadet program, which prepares them for entrance to the full choir. In order to earn their "red blazer" and become a full member of the choir, the boys had to learn and successfully audition 12 choir repertoire songs.

Austin Harris, a ninth grader, is starting his fourth year in the choir and is now Vice President. His voice part is Alto 2 low.

The following boys all earned their blazers this fall and are starting their first year in the choir: Zachary Durr, a fourth grader, earned his blazer on October 10. His voice part is Soprano 2 high. Hunter Harris, a fifth grader, earned his blazer on October 10. His voice part is Soprano 2 middle. Ian Millstein, a fourth grader, earned his blazer on September 26. His voice part is Soprano 1 high. Tyler Soso, a fifth grader, earned his blazer on October 3. His voice part is Alto 2 low.

The new choir members had their first performance on October 12 in Philadelphia as audience members and performers on "The 10! Show" on NBC. They recorded the choir singing a few songs and will be playing those clips on the show at various times. During the holiday season, the choir will perform holiday concerts in Philadelphia and Wayne on December 18 and 19, respectively, as well as performances with the Philly Pops and in the Pennsylvania Ballet's Nutcracker. They will also appear on "Good Morning America" to perform on December 24.

Visit the Philadelphia Boys Choir performance schedule.
